Vishuddha or Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is located at the neck/throat and is thus related to communication and creativity. It is given the color turquoise and is the element space.

This chakra represents our ability to communicate, speak clearly and appropriately and to say the right things at the right times. Therefore, Throat Chakra blockagesomeone with a balanced throat chakra would be considerate and thoughtful in communication and are aware of how what they say affects others.

A disturbance in this chakra will manifest itself as fear or hesitation to communicate, repressed communication, incessant talking and speaking too rapidly. Low self-esteem or arrogance, self-image fears, indecisiveness, oversensitivity to criticism, feeling abandoned or rejected, nervousness, difficulty controlling emotions and addictive behaviors including eating disorders can all be signs of a throat chakra imbalance.

Even small tingles and aches can be a sign that something needs to be addressed. As soon as the emotional issue has been resolved, the ache WILL clear up or simply completely vanish.

Imbalances can manifest quickly as an unexpected cough, or manifest as feeling like a lump is in your throat (even feeling choked up) and/or trouble when swallowing.

Aches, tingles and pain located around the Throat, Mouth and Neck. Including toothache, sore tongue, sensitive gums, tonsils, sore throats and tickly coughs.

The heart Chakra is responsible for respiratory organs, throat, neck, shoulders, thyroid and parathyroid, teeth and mouth.

Foods that balance the throat chakra are plums, blueberries, fish, chicken, celery, pear, potatoes or asparagus.

Balancing essential oils include basil, bergamot, cypress, chamomile (English/Roman), peppermint and spearmint

Balancing gemstones include sapphire, blue topaz or turquoise.

Asanas that help balance this chakra include postures involving the neck such as Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (bridge), Sarvangasana (shoulder stand), and neck rolls. Next time you perform these postures, connect with your throat chakra by keeping only positive thoughts around since thoughts become words. Be sure to focus on the color turquoise.

Positive affirmations to help balance the throat chakra are:
I willingly release all fears and negativity that block me from speaking my truth.

I lovingly speak my truth and allow my Higher Self to speak through me. I use my words to create beauty in this world.

Namaste
