Bicarbonate of Soda: A Little Miracle in a Tub

Most people would consider Bicarbonate of Soda for culinary use only, but this is one the most versatile products that you can have in your home, not only in the kitchen, but for cleaning and from a health and beauty prospective too.Bicarbonate_of_Soda

In the Home

It’s often been used for cleaning: removing stains, odours and great for whitening your teeth, but it also has other benefits. Bicarbonate of soda or also known as Baking soda (not baking powder) or Sodium Bicarbonate is found naturally in all living things. It’s vital for maintaining the pH of the bloodstream and essential for sustaining life.  It is usually found in the kitchen in a small tub for neutralising acidic foods or as a rising agent (instead of yeast). Its alkali properties neutralises the acid and in the process carbon dioxide is released, creating a bubbling or fizzing affect.

Health Benefits

For this very reason it’s perfect for those suffering with over acidic stomachs, sour stomachs and generally helping to raise your pH (pH>7 is alkaline) levels by neutralising (pH7 neutral) excessive acid (pH<7 acid).  Just a flat teaspoon in a small glass of water is enough to totally relieve you from a burning stomach and reflux acid, which burns the throat as it comes back from the stomach. You know it’s working when you belch!

"Athletes use it to increase their performance!"

Our bodies need to be more alkali in order for our cells to function properly, but also to stave off nasties, such as cancer. Cancers thrive in an acidic environment they cannot grow in an alkaline environment.  We normally get that from green vegetables and some fruits and nuts, including what you would think would be very acidic, lemons, but these turn alkali when digested.

Acid Causing Foods

Sugars, Fats, Oils, some vegetables such as corn, grains and legumes, meat and milk products are all acidic foods. When you eat them your body becomes more acidic, making an environment for other nasties such as Candida (causes thrush), which is a yeast or fungal infection, like cancers, it feeds off sugar. Not only does this fungus causes major discomfort, but it also releases toxins that poison our system causing fatigue, aches and pains; the list is endless.

As a Fungicide

This is another reason why Bicarbonate of soda is a fantastic substance, it a fungicide, which means it kills fungi such as the Candida internally and externally if you bathe in a solution of it. It is great for other areas of the body, such as soaking your feet in a solution of Bicarbonate of Soda to kill toenail fungus. It’s also useful for pimples and acne; mixed with sea salt it lessens the harsh burning sensation of the salt when used in sinus irrigation; even applying it to the babies bath water can help with nappy rash.

Beating Cancer

Due to its alkaline properties and oxygenising affects, certain medical establishments have successfully treated cancers directly with concentrated intravenous Bicarbonate of Soda solutions. All though there is still much debate, scepticism and potential debunking within the medical world over this treatment and it’s effectiveness.

However, to reinforce this alternative treatment, there are people who have had such aggressive cancers, told they were going to die, left with no choice and treated themselves with Bicarbonate of soda and molasses for x amount of days. The sugar/bicarb combination tricks the cancer cell as it feeds off sugar and the combination allows the Bicarbonate of Soda to be introduced to the cell and killing it before it gets the chance to reproduce.

Vernon Johnston was diagnosed with stage four Prostate and Bone cancer he documented this whole procedure as above and the outcome on the Internet. He had no conventional cancer treatment as according to the medical profession his time was up. The same medical profession a few days after finishing the sugar/Bicarbonate of Soda course cleared him. The cancer had completely gone. Vernon is still with us.

Dr. Mark Sircus, an oncologist who uses this method as part of his treatment with his patients is also the author of the eBook called “Sodium bicarbonate – Rich Man’s Poor Man’s Cancer Treatment” well worth checking out.

Personal Hygiene

The list goes on, but my biggest rave of this miracle substance is that it can be used successfully and reliably as a deodorant/antiperspirant. This discovery has changed my world, okay that may seem rather dramatic. But for someone like myself who has a family history of breast cancer, has to have mammograms every year (although I am knocking that one on the head due to the risk of this procedure); and you’re told to avoid these products sold as most have Aluminium Zirconium in, which have been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimers. You’re left with the products free versions, which in my opinion are not really effective, including the salt crystal, leaving me well, disillusioned and rather pungent.

Make your own Deodorant

When I came across the recipe I tried it with scepticism, but I was amazed!  It lasts all day and I mean at least 24 hours, barely any perspiration even after extreme physical activity where the rest of me is dripping and best of all no pungent odour! No burning sensation after shaving either. I just get it from my cupboard and mix it with a bit of coconut oil and essential oils that works with my skin type.

The recipe is so simple:

Neat from the packet – Coat your fingertip and rub arm pits.

or

Mix a 3 tablespoons Bicarbonate of Soda with about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil  that has been melted (the solid kind at room temperature) or enough to form a paste when mixed together.

You can add your favourite essential oils, be careful though, some oils can irritate the skin. Mix all together and place in a little sealed container.

How to Apply:

When solid apply about a coated fingertip amount of the mixture, you really don’t need a lot, and rub arm pits. It’s a bit of a gritty feeling at first but it dissolves. That’s it!

Side Affects and Contraindications

Even though this is a natural product and harmless in reasonable quantities, with No Common side affects it has been noted that it can in excessive doses cause metabolic alkalosis. So, it’s always wise even when using it as an antacid, to find the source of your over acid producing problem, reduce your sugar intake, eat more green vegetables, and don’t ingest more than 3- 4 teaspoons a day for more than 14 days. Always consult with your doctor if you are taking special medication or on a low sodium diet because it is a salt and even antacid tablet such as Rennies or Settlers are not recommended with certain medication.

Conclusion

Bicarbonate of Soda is an inexpensive product which has many benefits and it’s natural, but do check on the packet that it’s food safe - Some brands are industrial, i.e. for cleaning and have aluminium in them and probably other nasties!

Just a short comment on heading of "fungucide" particularly the sixth paragraph where you have typed/written "lessons" instead of " lessens" etc etc
